2019 Forrest Limited Edition Chenin Blanc
2019 Forrest Limited Edition Chenin Blanc
Vineyard Sites
Chenin Blanc is one the world’s noble grape varietals, whose spiritual home is the Loire Valley, France. It is very vigorous in the vineyard and requires constant supervision to keep yields in check. We grow these grapes on two distinctly different sites. The Wairau River Valley; gravel rich, free draining and devigourating soil profile and our Southern Valleys vineyard, a very special site with geologically older soils composed of crushed river stones, intermixed with clay.
Vinification
The grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the night, cold settled before being racked into old oak barriques for fermentation to add some complexity and accentuate that wet lanolin character of great Chenin.
Tasting Notes
An aged barrique of our best Chenin Blanc. Left to develop over the past 3 years, the wine shows creamy texture, hints of fresh cut hay and an almond nuttiness. We’ve done the cellaring so you can simply open and enjoy this rare expression of Chenin Blanc.
